It has been traceable since the early 11th century and existed until the expulsion of the Jewish population in 1424 for about four centuries. Archaeological finds and written records provide insights into one of the largest Jewish communities in Ashkenaz.

Thomas Otten has been the founding director of the MiQua museum project since 2016.
