Investigations after incident at open-air event
Two women collapse at "Rave by the Lake" – Police investigate on suspicion of grievous bodily harm
At the open-air "Rave by the Lake" at Gelterswoog in Kaiserslautern, two women aged 44 and 46 lost consciousness one after the other on Saturday after sharing a drink.
Both had to receive medical treatment. The police are investigating a 32-year-old man on suspicion of grievous bodily harm. According to investigators, it has not yet been confirmed whether knockout drops or another substance played a role.
Around 300 people were celebrating at the event when the two women collapsed. According to current information, no further similar incidents have been reported. Investigators are examining the exact circumstances and following up on leads.
Investigation status: Suspicion yes – cause still open
It is crucial to clearly distinguish between what is already established and what still needs to be clarified: It is certain that the two women lost consciousness one after the other after sharing a drink and needed help. It remains unclear what triggered this.
Especially in suspected cases involving knockout drops, the evidence is often difficult: Key questions include timing, possible witnesses, the exact sequence of events and – if samples are secured – toxicological findings. As long as such results are missing or there is no clear evidence, it remains open whether a substance was actually added or whether other factors played a role.
Additionally: According to previous information, it was very hot on Saturday, and alcohol was also consumed. Both can put a strain on the circulatory system and exacerbate situations. Whether this was relevant in the two collapses is currently as unclear as a possible influence of other substances.
Suspect in focus: Expelled from the premises
The police are investigating a 32-year-old man. According to the police, he is said to have harassed the two women several times before the incident.
Security staff had observed his conspicuous behavior for some time and eventually alerted the police. The man was expelled from the premises on site; officers then escorted him from the festival grounds.
Which specific action can ultimately be attributed to the man as part of the investigation is currently not conclusively clarified. The suspicion of grievous bodily harm remains – whether and how this is substantiated depends on further investigations.
What the case means for visitors – and what cannot yet be said
The incident affects an event that was announced as a summery open-air directly by the water. When people suddenly lose consciousness there, it directly impacts the guests' sense of security – and raises questions that can only be answered after careful clarification.
At this point in time, the facts do not allow for any serious conclusions about the use of "knockout drops". What will be decisive is whether further clues, witness statements or medical-forensic results can clarify the cause of the collapses.
Until then, it remains an investigation – not confirmed evidence of a specific substance.
