Future Council: When the Next Generation Takes a Seat in the Conference Room
A yellow school bus becomes a mobile think tank, with eight engaged children and teenagers voicing a possible future: Damon Gameau's documentary Future Council connects climate issues, road movie and political education into a compelling stage experience in the cinema hall of CinéMayence. On Saturday, December 5, 2026, the subtitled screening brings the audience right into an extraordinary council of the future.
A Journey Through Europe with Clear Vision
The young protagonists travel across Europe with the director. Their stops lead to the headquarters of powerful corporations, from global energy companies to food giants. There, they encounter CEOs and top managers directly and pose an uncomfortable question: What should the world look like that will be left to their generation?
Dramaturgy Between Hope and Responsibility
Gameau develops his staging not as a dark warning but as a dynamic interplay of curiosity, humor, and seriousness. The dramaturgy follows the impulses of the youth: They observe, ask, disagree, and seek concrete solutions. This creates a documentary that treats climate change not as an abstract statistic but as a personal and social challenge.
A Powerful Perspective of Young People
The film's tension arises from the contrast between youthful openness and the routines of the global economy. When the young people step from the school bus into the conference rooms, the perspective shifts: It is not the adults who explain the future, but the next generation demanding answers. The audience's reaction aims less at simple solutions and more at the courage to question familiar ways of thinking.
Cinematic Stage Art at CinéMayence
The cinema atmosphere of CinéMayence creates the perfect resonance space for this journey. On the screen, European landscapes, conversations, and conference rooms meet. The English original version with subtitles preserves the voices of those involved and makes the film's international dimension immediately tangible. With a runtime of 81 minutes, the staging remains focused and accessible.
