Roller Derby Recruiting Day in Mainz: Your entry into the fast-paced team sport
On Sunday, November 8, 2026, the Maniac Monsters Mainz invite you to the Roller Derby Recruiting Day at the Erich-Schott-Halle of TSV Schott. The Freshie course is aimed at people who want to get to know the sport, gain initial experiences on roller skates, and become part of an open community.
Step by Step onto the Track
Roller Derby combines speed, body control, tactics, and teamwork. At the beginning, the focus is on the basics: safe skating, braking, falling, dodging, and maintaining control over the roller skates. This is followed by initial game situations, rules, and safe blocking techniques.
The Freshie course is tailored for beginners. Own roller skates or protective gear are not required to start, as the team will initially provide the necessary equipment. The training takes place in a structured series of phases and creates a solid foundation for the further journey in Roller Derby.
Full Contact with System and Team Spirit
On the oval track, each team fields five players: a jammer scores points by overtaking, while four blockers open up their own path and stop opposing attacks. Short jams, clear communication, and quick tactical decisions determine the action.
The Maniac Monsters Mainz are looking for skaters from the FLINTA* spectrum as well as referees of all genders aged 18 and over. Support can also be provided off the track as a Non-Skating Official. Experience in roller skating or Roller Derby is not necessary.
Sporty Atmosphere in the Erich-Schott-Halle
In the hall, game excitement, fan chants, and focused training work come together. The rolling of skates, clear shouts, and the dynamics of the first exercises immediately convey why Roller Derby means so much more than just speed. Fitness, technique, game understanding, and mutual support grow together.
Conclusion: Make the First Step Now
The Recruiting Day offers a direct entry into a versatile sport with a strong sense of community. Anyone who wants to experience the track not just from the outside but also wants to skate, think tactically, and take responsibility within the team will find the right starting point with the Maniac Monsters Mainz.
