DO YOU LOVE ME: Political Cinema at FILMZ-Shell Cinema
On November 10, 2026, the FILMZ-Shell Cinema brings the essayistic documentary DO YOU LOVE ME to the campus of Johannes Gutenberg University Mainz. The event combines a shared cinema experience, social exchange, and the intense atmosphere of the FILMZ festival.
A Film about Memory, Resistance, and Beirut
DO YOU LOVE ME by Lana Daher reconstructs the fragmented history of Lebanon using film and audiovisual archive material. Images, music, and voices from more than 20,000 official and private sources coalesce into a multi-layered portrait of Beirut and its tumultuous history.
Film as Antifascist Practice
The Shell Cinema addresses the FILMZ symposium and spotlight program on the theme of film as antifascist practice – democracy and resistance with this screening. The film connects personal memories, political fractures, and cultural testimonies to create a compelling dialogue about oppression, identity, and social change.
Shared Cinema Experience on the JGU Campus
The screening begins at 20:30 in lecture hall N2 on the campus of Johannes Gutenberg University. Cushions, drinks, and the open festival atmosphere make the Shell Cinema a communal multi-day experience within the FILMZ anniversary year. The program is aimed at students and all film enthusiasts in Mainz.
